Counseling Center
Career Awareness Program
What is
the Career Awareness Program (C.A.P.)?
The C.A.P. is a class
assignment that gives you the opportunity to begin thinking
about choosing a college major or to consider the match
between your career goals and the college major you have
already chosen. You will complete several career
assessment instruments at the Counseling Center followed by
an interpretation during one of your class meetings.
Why do the
Counseling Center staff members and class
instructors offer the Career Awareness Program?
Approximately 50 percent of
those entering college with a declared major change it at least once. Some change their
major more than once. This translates to lost time and
money.
Students entering
college with a choice of major that is a good match for their interests, values, and abilities tend to
persist toward a college degree more successfully than students without a major or a
major that is not a good match.
What will I be expected to
do?
You will
come to the Counseling Center, complete the Discover Interest
Inventory, enter the scores into the computer, and complete the Myers-Briggs
Personality Type Indicator.
How long will it take to
complete the Career Awareness Program?
Approximately 30
minutes.
What information will I be expected to
bring?
Your instructor's name,
your student ID#, name of your class, and the time the class
meets.
When can I sign up for an
appointment?
You can come by
Suite 2203 Reng Student Service Center
or call the Counseling Center at 972-2318 to make an appointment. Office
hours are from 8:00 - 5:00 Monday through Friday.
What if I don't sign-up
for an appointment or I need to change my appointment?
Come by or call the Counseling Center to make
or change your appointment. When contacting the
Counseling Center, please identify the name of the instructor requiring the
assignment.
